Founded by current Managing Director, John Gall’s grandparents in 1945, John started helping out in the bakery when he was only 12 years old. He officially joined the company at the age of 16 as a 3rd generation addition in 1980 following in his mother Margaret’s footsteps. At that time the business turnover was around £250k.

Since then, the business has continued to grow rapidly with John’s son and daughter, Fraser and Nicola joining becoming 4th generation additions. This year (2020) saw the company reporting its most successful year to date with a turnover of £8.9m.

Now employing over 160 staff, Brownings produce multi award-

winning fresh craft bakery products including morning goods, cakes and savouries as well as their signature product, the famous Kilmarnock Pie.

Brownings have 6 retail stores throughout Ayrshire as well as servicing major supermarket chains and convenience stores all over Scotland including, Aldi, Asda, Marks & Spencers, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose, Keystore, Scotmid, (CJ Lang) SPAR and Premier Stores, as well as local restaurants, shops and cafes.

With recent attributes such as World Scotch Pie Champions, Scottish Baker of the Year, Best Football Pie in Scotland and various Great Taste awards amongst others, the founding principles of the business haven’t changed, sourcing the finest local ingredients to produce products of the highest quality.

Those principles have served the company for 75 years and continues to be the philosophy today.
