CJ Lang & Son Ltd, owners and operators of SPAR Scotland, raised more than £70,000 last year for local causes and charities.

The company donated a generous cheque for £4,000 to the CLAN Cancer Support; CLAN is an independent charity for anyone of any age, affected by any type of cancer. They help people who are affected by cancer personally, as a carer, family member or close friend.

The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag, and was collected and donated to a local charity nominated by the relevant stores. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and has already raised over £300,000 which has been invested directly into the surrounding community.

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s Fundraising Manager said “Thank-you to SPAR stores across Aberdeen for choosing CLAN for this generous donation of £4000. This is the third time SPAR have raised money for CLAN through their carrier bag incentive and we very much appreciate their continued support”

Clan Cancer support is one of the 32 chosen charities across the country to benefit from the funds raised. Cheques will be donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, sports clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the year.
