CJ Lang and Son Limited, owners and operators of SPAR Scotland, raised more than £70,000 last year for local causes and charities.

The company donated a generous cheque for £3000 to The ARCHIE Foundation; the foundation is making a real difference to the lives of sick children in the North of Scotland and the Islands who need medical care in the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, in children's wards in Inverness and Elgin or in their own community.

The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag, and was collected and donated to a local charity nominated by the relevant stores. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and has already raised more than £300,000 which has been invested directly into the surrounding community.

Emma Slesser Fundraising Assistant said “We would like to thank our great supporters at SPAR for choosing to donate £3000 to The ARCHIE Foundation. This money will go towards our tenth anniversary appeal, the High 10 appeal. We were especially delighted to receive the cheque from staff at the SPAR on Ashgrove Road, Aberdeen as we know that they have regularly taken our collection cans for us which we hugely appreciate.”

The ARCHIE Foundation is one of the 32 chosen charities across the country to benefit from the funds raised. Cheques will be donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, sports clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the year.
