CJ Lang & Son Ltd, owners and operators of SPAR Scotland, raised more than £70,000 last year for local causes and charities.

Local SPAR stores in Largs, Saltcoats and West Kilbride donated a generous £2,000 to children hospice Robin House .Robin House is Scotland’s second children’s hospice and offers families a home away from home where they can relax; recharge their batteries whilst knowing expert care is on hand to help.

The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag, and was collected and donated to a local charity nominated by the relevant stores. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and has already risen over £300,000.

Samantha Reilly, CHAS Fundraiser said: “ £2000 is a fantastic amount to have raised from the SPAR 2p carrier bag initiative and will greatly help CHAS reach our target of £25,000 per day to run our hospice services in Scotland. I would like to thank SPAR for their generous contribution; your donation will help provide care, support and ensure we can continue to create special memories with all families who use CHAS, Thank you!”

Robin House is one of the 32 chosen charities across the country to benefit from the funds raised. Cheques will be donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, sports clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the year.
