LOCAL CHARITY BAGS A CHEQUE FROM SPAR SCOTLAND!

CJ Lang & Son Ltd, owners and operators of SPAR Scotland, raised more than £70,000 last year for local causes and charities.

The company donated a generous cheque for £3,000 to Motor Neurone Disease Scotland, who provide care and support to everyone affected by the disease .The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag, and was collected and donated to a local charity nominated by the relevant stores. Iain McWhirter Head of Fundraising and Volunteering said “‘I’m really grateful that SPAR has chosen to make such a generous donation to MND Scotland. We have an aspiration for a world without motor neurone disease, and until that day the charity’s main priority is to ensure we provide the best possible care to those people affected by this cruel and incurable disease. This wonderful donation will help us to achieve that and has been invested directly into the surrounding community.”

Motor Neurone Disease is one of the 32 chosen charities across the country to benefit from the funds raised. Cheques will be donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, sports clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the year.

The company donated a generous cheque for £2,000 to the BOSIES Breast Cancer Support, BOSIES is a Charity set up by a family in Aberdeen who have been affected by cancer and have decided to help others affected by the same condition.

The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag, and was collected and donated to a local charity nominated by the relevant stores. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and has already raised over £300,000 which has been invested directly into the surrounding community.

Maggie Lenahan manager of BOSIES said “On behalf of BOSIES Breast Cancer Charity we would like to say a huge thank you to SPAR Scotland for their generous donation of £2000. We intend to use that money and have our van sign written with our logo and details.”

The company donated a generous cheque for £500 to Scottish Autism .This organisation is the largest provider of autism-specific services in Scotland and is dedicated to enriching the lives of people with autism.

Karen Wilson the Fundraising Manager for Scottish Autism said: “We are thrilled to receive such a generous donation collected by SPAR stores from their carrier bag initiative. Scottish Autism depends on donations to help us reach as many people as possible affected by autism in Scotland, supporting them and their families throughout their life journey.”

Jenny Burgon from the charity said “The Regeneration Forum is very grateful to Spar for their generous donation. The forum works to improve the area of Abronhill and it is great to receive money that is both from the community and has such good ecological credentials. We are providing welcome signs at the entrances to Abronhill and this is a very generous contribution to the work. In addition, we provide two local play parks and we welcome Spar’s support in this provision.”
