LOCAL LAD ALFIE MILNE BAGS A CHEQUE FROM SPAR SCOTLAND FOR HIS CHARITY!

CJ Lang & Son Ltd, owners and operators of SPAR Scotland, raised more than £80,000 last year for local causes and charities.

The company donated a generous cheque for £500 to the Alfie Milne Lymphangiomatosis Trust. Alfie Milne is a local lad who has Lymphangiomatosis and is in a wheelchair but with the use of a new drug, he has been able to walk a few steps. All proceeds of this non-profit organisation goes towards research into this condition and Gorham’s Disease.

The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag, and was collected and donated to a local charity nominated by the relevant stores. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and has already raised over £250,000 which has been invested directly into the surrounding community.

Jamie Buchannan, Company Owned Director said, “We’d like to thank our customers for making this possible. Not only do many deserving charities across Scotland benefit from the monies raised, we also believe it encourages our customers to reuse carrier bags which helps protect the environment”.

So far, SPAR Scotland’s plastic bag usage has decreased by 40% since the launch of the scheme.

The Alfie Milne Lymphangiomatosis Trust is one of the 25 chosen charities across the country to benefit from the monies raised. Cheques will be donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the early New Year.
