CJ Lang & Son Ltd, owners and operators of SPAR Scotland, raised more than £70,000 last year for local causes and charities.

The company donated a generous cheque for £1,000 to Nairn Kayak Club, who is a charity based in Nairn with the aim to promote active participation of youths and adults in kayaking and canoeing in and around the inner Moray Firth area.

The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag, and was collected and donated to a local charity nominated by the relevant stores. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and has already risen over £300,000 which has been invested directly into the surrounding community.

Fundraiser for the club Steven Bain said “We are a charity based in Nairn with our aims to promote active participation of youths and adults in kayaking and canoeing in and around the inner Moray Firth area. The donation will be used to purchase safety equipment for our youths and will be invested directly into the surrounding community “.

Nairn Kayak Club is one of the 32 chosen charities across the country to benefit from the funds raised. Cheques will be donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, sports clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the year.
