SPAR Clifton Road owned and operated by CJ Lang and Son has recently donated a generous £5,000 to their local charity – Maggie’s Aberdeen.

A total of £25,000 was raised through the five pence plastic bag initiative rolled-out across the 17 shops around the city. Fundraising began 18-months ago and the total amount raised has been split between 5 charities.

Maggie’s offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends. Built in the grounds of specialist NHS cancer hospitals, Maggie’s Centers are warm and welcoming places, with qualified professionals on hand to offer a programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.

Susan Sutherland, Maggie’s Aberdeen centre head, said: “We are very thankful to the customers of SPAR around Aberdeen who have been able to raise such a fantastic amount. Maggie’s relies solely on voluntary donations to keep the centre operational so amounts like this mean a lot to us.

“The donation will go a long way and will help us to continue giving the valuable support we offer our visitors here at the centre”

Bill Christie, Area manager for SPAR Scotland, said:” We are thrilled to be handing over this donation to our local charity-Maggie’s Aberdeen. The customers who bought their plastic bags have been able to generate a great amount to help assist the charity with its valuable work.”
