Maggie’s Centre, Dundee received a cheque for £5,000 at SPAR Glamis Road, Dundee on Friday 5th November. The money has been raised from the local SPAR stores in the Tayside area owned and operated by CJ Lang and Son Limited. Company Owned Stores Director, Jamie Buchanan presented the cheque at the SPAR store on Friday and afterwards took a tour of the facility to see where the funds will be used.

The monies donated have been raised through the sale of carrier bags in the many SPAR convenience stores owned and operated by SPAR Scotland wholesaler and retailer CJ Lang and Son Limited. The funds generated from the sale of every single use carrier bag in store are donated to charity. The scheme, where bags are sold at 2p, has been running since September 2008. During this time the company has raised a staggering £140,727 for charities across Scotland, this year, they hope to continue this good work by donating to local charities in Scottish communities.

Jamie Buchanan, Company Owned Stores Director commented:
“We are delighted to be donating £5000 to such a worthy cause. 1 in 3 of us is affected by cancer at some point in our lives. Maggie’s Centre in Dundee, and others across the country, offer families great comfort and support in their time of need. Money raised from our carrier bag scheme has been donated to great causes in the communities we serve and we are proud to be supporting Maggie’s this year in the lead up to Christmas. So far, our carrier bag scheme has given £140,727 to local Scottish charities in the last 2 years, which is a fantastic achievement”
