CJ Lang & Son Ltd, owners and operators of SPAR Scotland, raised more than £70,000 last year for local causes and charities.

The company donated a generous cheque for £750 to Soldiers off the Street, who are a new charity with a dedicated group of people determined to help the forgotten ex service personnel whose lives have been affected by homelessness. Soldiers Off The street depend on on donations as they receive no government funding and rely entirely on our "army" of volunteers & the generosity of the general public. No-one at Soldiers Off The Street Scotland receive a wage, all the work is done on an entirely voluntary basis.

The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag, and was collected and donated to a local charity nominated by the relevant stores. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and has already raised more than £300,000 which has been invested directly into the surrounding community.

Walter Hamilton Scottish coordinator for Soildiers Off The Street said “the money from SPAR Scotland was very much appreciated and we have already used the funds to rehome one of our veterans “

Soldiers Off The Street is one of the 32 chosen charities across the country to benefit from the funds raised. Cheques will be donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, sports clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the year.
