SPAR EMPLOYEE HELPED TO ACHIEVE HIS ATHLETIC VISION

Two SPAR stores in Dumfries, Rosevale and Georgetown have generously donated £500 to sponsor local boy and SPAR employee Kyle McLellan to help him achieve his athletic vision. This year Kyle was ranked 2nd in the UK and 1st in Scotland in the under-23 age category for the marathon.

The stores in Dumfries have sponsored Kyle with money raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which costs customers 2p per bag. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and has already raised more than £300,000 which has been invested directly into the surrounding community.

Kyle McLellan said “In athletics, you walk a fine line between fitness and injury. Thanks to CJ Lang & Son and SPAR Rosevale and Georgetown stores, I will have access to coaching programmes and sports doctors which will allow me not only to maintain my fitness but to progress within the world of long distance running. In the next 12 months, I am looking to better my 10,000m and marathon times with the eventual aim of the Commonwealth Gold Coast games in 2018. Thank you CJ Lang & Son for your support!”
