In addition, Saltcoats, Glamis Centre Glenrothes and East Kilbride stores won Excellence in Milk Marketing awards.

Saleem and his family between them have over 80 years of retail experience. He and his team of 24 staff , all from the local area, impressed with the support they provide to their local community by sponsoring the local primary school’s sports kit and the fundraising they do for children’s charity CHILDREN 1ST.

Saleem said: “We’re delighted to win this award – it was a real shock and the fact that our customers nominated us to help us win makes us even more proud.

“We’ve included facilities such as the banking facilities, DVD rental machine and the Chicken Cottage which sit alongside our more traditional services to provide a ‘one –stop shop’ for the local neighbourhood and this award tells us we’ve achieved that!”

The Robert Wiseman Dairies Neighbourhood Shop of the Year awards is in its 15th year and recognises the contribution local neighbourhood stores make to their local community.

Sandy Wilkie, sales and marketing director at Robert Wiseman Dairies said: “Congratulations to the Sadiq family and the staff and customers of Spar Renfrew. We’re delighted to name them as the Neighbourhood Shop of the Year and they’re very deserving of the title!”

After being nominated by their customers, each of the national finalists underwent a rigorous judging process. This included being visited by mystery shoppers who judged the stores against a strict criteria including friendliness of staff, merchandising and product range.
