Fife Gingerbread and Home Start in Leven both benefited from a generous donation of £1000 each from towns local brand new SPAR store. Owned and operated by Dundee based CJ Lang and Son Limited, SPAR Leven was able to donate funds raised through the sale of single use carrier bags by other SPAR stores in Fife region.

Fife Gingerbread is a voluntary sector organisation working with lone parents all over Fife. They were established in 1987, although in those early days they were known as Fife Federation of Gingerbread. By the time of their name change in 2002 there was already a marked change in household patterns and demand for services through an increase in one parent families. Their remit however has remained the same: to provide accessible, approachable and non-judgmental support, advice and information to all lone parents with children of all ages, from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Home-Start is a nationwide registered charity which supports families who have at least one child under the age of five years. Every family is special and Home-Start responds to each family’s needs through a combination of home visiting support, group work and social events.

Kathryn Miller, Families & Children Manager at Fife Gingerbread, said: “We are so grateful for this kind donation from a local business. Contributions like this go a long way in helping us add value to the holistic support we provide for lone parent, vulnerable and disadvantaged families in Fife. We hope that this leads to a long standing partnership with SPAR.”

Kay McLeary, from Home Start, said: “We are really delighted to receive this support from the SPAR in Leven. We are delighted that local businesses and population continue to support our charity”.

Jill McEwan, Area Manager for SPAR Scotland, said: “Staff in SPAR stores are very proud that the money raised from our carrier bag sales can be put to such good use with local charities”
