SPAR Prestwick, owned and operated by CJ Lang and Son Limited has recently donated a generous £1,000 to Glenburn Miners Football Club.

The money was raised through the sale of single use carrier bags, which since October 2014 cost customers 5p per bag.

Glenburn Miners Football Club are a voluntary organisation and registered charity committed to providing access to organised football for all age groups from toddlers through to adults regardless of age or ability.  Their focus is on promoting fun and fitness through football. Glenburn MWFC was formed in 1976 following the opening of the Glenburn Miners Welfare and Social Club in 1975.

Stuart Fance, Area manager for SPAR Scotland said, “Glenburn MWFC plays such an important part within the community of Prestwick, promoting fitness and activities to all age groups.  Run by volunteers their dedication is admirable so it’s an absolute pleasure for our store in Carradale Drive Prestwick to help out with a donation for this very worthwhile cause”.

Lyell Kidd from Glenburn MWFC said, “Glenburn MWFC 2005's received £1000 sponsorship from the SPAR store on Carradale Drive in Prestwick. From all at our team we would like to say a massive thank you. Donations like this are what keeps the club going. We are taking our boys to play in the Blackpool cup this Easter and are currently raising money to take the team to the Barcelona cup next April. So this money plays a huge part in us trying to reach our £10,000 target”.
