SPAR SCOTLAND SWEEP UP AT SCOTTISH GROCER AWARDS

SPAR Scotland is celebrating 14 nods of recognition from the prestigious 2012 Scottish Grocer Awards.

Now in its 17th year, the annual event is a highlight in the Scottish retail calendar. Held at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel on Thursday 15th March, television presenter Kate Thornton announced the winners from the intensive judging process.

The ceremony rewards retail excellence and it proved a great night for CJ Lang and Son Limited’s company owned and operated SPAR Stores as Hillfoot Road Ayr, picked up the prestigious Symbol Store of the year Award (4 or more stores).

Multi Award Winner SPAR Thornliebank Glasgow collected both the Confectionery Retailer and Best Soft Drinks Outlet of the Year.

Another multi award winner SPAR Dalrymple picked up the Making the most of milk and Merchandising Award as well as being Highly Commended in the four categories of: Health Promoting Retailer, Convenience store, Tobacco Retailer and Symbol Store of the Year.

C J Lang’s commitment to its staff development was recognised by the training departments highly commended status in the Training Award category for their excellent and comprehensive training programmes, which have been completely overhauled in the last four years, to offer more flexible training options.

SPAR Hillfoot also came highly commended in the Making the most of Milk & Merchandising Award Categories and in the Chilled Store of the Year Category that it previously held the winning title for in 2010.

Ensuring an independent SPAR Store made it on to the roll of honour were Billy and Margaret Kay who own the SPAR store in South Street Greenock. There store was highly commended in the category of Best soft drinks outlet of the year Award. The Greenock retailers are well known by their loyal customers for their friendly service and are no strangers to awards having previously scooped the titles of Confectionery Retailer of the Year and Making the most of milk.
