TWO SPAR EMPLOYEES MAKE IT ONTO SLR’S NEWEST AWARD CATEGORY

Date Published:

Two SPAR employees have made it into the final three of the Scottish Local Retailer Awards, Employee of the Year category. The glitzy ceremony is being held at the Glasgow Radisson Hotel on Thursday 21st June.

The Employee of the year category, is new for this year, and is designed to recognise those extra special employees who simply go that extra mile for the benefit of customers and who are respected and admired by their team and customers alike.

Store Manager Leanne Davidson of SPAR Drummers Corner, Peterhead nominated employee Christine Gordon. Leanne said that she speaks for all of those who know her, when she says how inspirational and courageous that Christine is.

Christine has beaten cancer with not as much as a moan about it, having taken only 2 weeks off of work whilst she had an operation , and bouncing back with the same humor, that regular customers look forward to on a daily basis.

Leanne says Christine is always going that extra mile to ensure that not only the customers are happy but that the stores perform well in any company led initiatives. She is described by her manager as an absolute pleasure to work with and that the store would just not be the same without her.

Our second employee in the final is Ashleigh Walker, supervisor at Spar, Rosemount Viaduct, Aberdeen. She was nominated by store manager Stephen Walker. Stephen describes Ashleigh as a bubbly, hardworking and committed employee, who is always wearing a smile, and who goes out of her way to help customers, particularly the elderly and less abled.

She stepped in to help when the store were staff members down and she ensures new starts are made to feel welcome and trained to deliver a high standard of customer service, which she believes is essential to customer loyalty. Stephen regularly receives positive feedback from customers about Ashleigh and believes she deserves to win Employee of the Year.

Business Development Controller for SPAR Scotland, Philippe Rondepierre, said of the nominations. “Happy customers are at the heart of local retailing and those staff who make shoppers happy ought to have their efforts acknowledged. I am delighted that the efforts of two members of our staff have been deemed, by the judging panel, to be worthy of a place in the finals of an important award.”

In addition to this, 8 SPAR Retailers have made it into the finals of the remaining 12 categories, and hoping to scoop as many of the 14 awards they have been nominated for.
