SPAR SCOTLAND CELEBRATE 8 WINS AT SCOTTISH GROCER AWARDS

SPAR Scotland is celebrating 8 SPAR Scotland honours from the prestigious 2010 Scottish Grocer Awards. Now in its 15th year, the event is a highlight in the Scottish retail calendar. Held at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel on Thursday 11 March, television presenter Tess Daly announced the winners from the intensive judging process. CJ Lang and Son Limited won the Social Responsibility Award sponsored by Diageo. The company’s SPAR store in Hillfoot Road, Ayr also bagged the Chilled Store of the Year title. CJ Lang and Son Limited company owned and operated stores were highly commended in three categories. SPAR Camelon was highly commended for Best Soft Drinks Outlet of the Year and Tobacco Retailer of the Year while SPAR Broomhill was highly commended in the City Store of the Year category. The Industry Achievement award was presented to Lizette Craig, Managing Director of Botterills Convenience Stores. The company owns and operates many SPAR stores across Scotland. Indeed, Botterills Convenience Stores had a fantastic night, winning three awards and being highly commended for two. Bakery Retailer of the Year was won by the company’s SPAR store in Kirkintilloch. While Best Soft Drinks Outlet of the Year was awarded to the West Craigs, Hamilton SPAR store. The Health Promoting Retailer of the Year award went to retailer Pete Cheema for his store in Drip Road, Stirling. It was a SPAR hat trick for The Making the Most of Milk Award. The award was won by Billy and Margaret Kay who own the SPAR store in South Street Greenock. Billy and Margaret are well known by their loyal customers for their friendly service. Furthermore, the SPAR stores owned and operated by Botterills Convenience Stores in Castle Douglas and West Craigs, Hamilton were both highly commended in this category. The Greenock retailer went on to scoop the Confectionery Retailer of the Year title as well as being highly commended in the Best Independent Retailer of the Year category. The awards reward retail excellence and it proved a great night for SPAR recognising SPAR’s commitment to offering their customers a service that exceeds their expectations.
