SHOULDERING THE RESPONSIBILITY - CJ LANG HOLD RESPONSIBLE RETAILING CONFERENCE

Scottish SPAR retailer, CJ Lang and Son Limited have held their annual Responsible Retailing Conference at Airth Castle. The event for SPAR stores owned and operated by the company was held on 12th May.
Now in its third year, the Conference offers the perfect forum for store managers to participate in the debate and contribute ideas and their experiences to shape company policy. With the recent introduction of new licensing laws in September, last years conference was a fantastic success with store managers able to see first hand what changes would be taking place in their stores due to legislative policies. Feedback from groups helped the company implement changes, such as amendments to the Challenge 25 signage and supporting materials.
So far, the company have been very successful and won numerous awards. The company’s Training Department were honoured last year at the BII National Training Awards. C J Lang and Son Limited won the Supreme Winner title, in addition to an award for Best Development Programme where consumption is Off the Premises. At this year’s Scottish Grocer Awards the company took the title Responsible Retailer of the Year and were last month awarded a ‘Merit’ for three Dundee stores participating in the areas “Safer Retailing Awards”.
This year, the conference covered topics such as the Licensing Scotland Act and changes to Tobacco and Cigarette legislation. A selection of speakers from within the industry gave talks including an MSP and Licensing Standards Officer, in addition to Police and industry speakers.
