It was an all SPAR final as the SPAR and CHILDREN 1ST Tartan 5’s football tournament was decided on Saturday beneath a blazing Glasgow sun. The winning team SPAR Westwood won against SPAR Govan winning 1 – 0 to take home the Tartan 5’s trophy. The lucky team also won a Go Karting experience as a reward for winning the event.
Winning team member Keith Lindsay, who works in SPAR Westwood, East Kilbride commented:
‘We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the tournament and are delighted to have won. The Tartan 5’s trophy is sitting in pride of place at the till point in store!’
The final leg of the tournament was played out at Queen’s Park Football ground ‘Lesser Hampden’ with five teams competing in the event. All teams were treated to a tour of Scotland’s national football stadium, Hampden Park, as well as a visit to the football museum. All the finalists had previously played in regional rounds held in Paisley, Dundee and Aberdeen in May.
The tournament was organised by charity CHILDREN 1ST and SPAR to raise funds for the charity. SPAR stores across Scotland support the charity which promotes children’s rights and interests as well as supporting families under stress and protecting children from harm.
Cassie Oliver from CHILDREN 1ST said of the event:
“We hope to have raised nearly £5,000 from the tournament. Indeed, the competition has not just been on the football field as teams have been competing to try to raise the most money! Thank you to everyone who took part in this fantastic event as the money you raised will make an incredible difference to a lot of children and families all over Scotland.”
