SPAR Scotland wholesaler CJ Lang and Son Limited invited their retailers to attend ‘Fit for Fresh’ events on 22nd and 24th June. The events were organised to help retailers manage the fresh categories within their businesses and were held in two venues the Doubletree by Hilton, Dunblane and the Kingsmill Hotel, Inverness.
The events consisted of a series of presentations and workshops on the topics of produce, bread and cakes, dairy and equipment. The workshops are practical in nature and retailers had the chance to discuss subjects such as the display, layout, ordering, handling, waste control and seasonal changes of products.
Gordon Airth Trading Controller (Temperature Controlled) said of the events:
“Fresh food continues to be a growth category and we are supporting SPAR retailers by holding ‘Fit for Fresh’ events, giving retailers the confidence to enhance their in store offering of fresh foods.”
In addition to the events, a comprehensive fresh produce directory has also been produced. The directory has been designed to be used by retailers as a reference guide, which can be referred to on a day to day basis.
Indeed, CJ Lang and Son Limited have invested in the fresh categories and last year completed the installation of a temperature controlled extension to their Longtown Road Distribution Centre in Dundee. The extension ensures SPAR retailers receive fresh foods in the best possible condition and the ‘Fit for Fresh’ Roadshows continues to support SPAR retailers selling fresh produce.
