SPAR retailers were thanked for raising £2 million for charities CHILDREN 1ST and NSPCC at an event on Friday 21st August. The charities organised the event to present a plaque to each RDC thanking them for their fundraising contributions. Speakers included Jill Cook from Parentline and Tracy Whitehead from NSPCC who described the services they offer to help vulnerable children and families.
SPAR retailers have raised money from various initiatives including, Letter from Santa, Kilts for Kids Day and a Tartan 5’s football tournament. Many people have dressed in silly outfits, baked cakes and shook collection boxes to raise the much needed funds for the charities.
CHILDREN 1ST works to support families under stress, protect children from harm and neglect, help them to recover from abuse and promote children’s rights and interests. The funds raised by retailers will help to support ParentLine, a free and confidential service for parents who need advice. The service is based in Edinburgh and is available 5 days a week, with ongoing support CHILDREN 1ST hope to extend these hours of service.
