On Friday 8th October, SPAR Wemyss Bay was visited by local MSP Ross Finnie to highlight Alcohol Awareness Week. This is the second year that CJ Lang and Son Limited company owned stores have participated in MSP visits to raise awareness of the campaign. CJ Lang and Son Limited Area Manager David Cunningham was present at the visit along with John Drummond, president of the Scottish Grocers Federation.
Alcohol Awareness Week runs from 4th – 10th October and is an initiative by the Scottish Government in conjunction with the Alcohol industry. The campaign tagline: ‘How do you measure up?’ highlights the idea that by making positive lifestyle choices, changing drinking habits and drinking more responsibly you can get more out of your life.
The campaign challenges people to change their views on acceptable drinking habits within our society. Point of Sale material was produced by the Scottish government for retailers to display in store to communicate the message to the public. SPAR retailers used the material in stores to reinforce the responsible drinking message to customers.
CJ Lang and Son Limited have been at the forefront of responsible retailing. The company, which has 92 company owned stores initiated a combination of company policies and training to ensure that these stores can deal with alcohol related sales and comply with legislation effectively.
