SPAR AUCHTERARDER LAUNCHES GREEN INITIATIVE

CJ Lang and Son’s newly acquired SPAR store in Auchterarder has launched an in store campaign to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Raise Funds. The store is encouraging customers to reuse their carrier bags. Every time a customer reuses a carrier bag the store will donate 10p to a local cause. The two causes are; The Community School for Auchterarder and Saint Margaret’s Hospital. Additionally, the first 300 customers in store received a free reusable Jute carrier bag worth £1.50 at the launch in December.
Customers will be handed a green voucher every time they reuse a carrier bag in store and then choose which cause they would like to support by placing their voucher in the appropriate box.
Store manager Murray Smith, said of the scheme:
“We are committed to helping reduce the number of plastic carrier bags used in store and we hope the local community will get behind this, it’s a great opportunity to reduce waste in Auchterarder and support local causes in the process.”
The store changed ownership in November and is open Monday – Sunday 7am until 10pm. The SPAR store will offer a wide selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled and frozen foods, soft drinks and snacks, grocery products, off licence, household products and lottery services to the local community. Bill payment and mobile phone top up are all available through the store’s new PayPoint facility as well as DVD rental for the perfect night in.
CJ Lang and Son Limited operate 94 company owned SPAR stores and supply delivered wholesale goods to over 300 SPAR stores across Scotland. The company have to date raised £140,727 for local causes throughout Scotland by donating funds raised from carrier bag sales to local charities.
